Richard de Clare "Strongbow" 2nd Earl of Pembroke born 1130 led the Anglo-Norman invasion of Ireland 1169 in the reign of Henry II married 1171 to Aoife Mac Murrough Princess of Leinster descendant of Brian Boru in 1172 he and his wife's uncle Archbishop Laurence O'Toole started the re-building in stone of Christ Church Cathedral Dublin.

During the last days of the late king Henry II he promised William Marshal the hand and estates of Isabel de Clare (1172–1220). King Richard I Coeur de Lion confirmed the offer and so in August 1189 at the age of 43 the Marshal married the 17-year-old daughter of Richard de Clare (Strongbow) whose mother in law Princess Aoife of Leinster had close family links with the O'Carroll of Ely Munster Eire.


The Vatican City: Popes have generally resided within the Vatican City since the return from Avignon France in 1377. Teige O'Carroll of Ely after attending the Court of King Richard II of England at Westminster Hall in 1391 then attended the Papal Court in 1392. In 1395 Teige O'Carroll defeated the forces of King Richard II which had invaded Ely under the command of the King's cousin Roger Mortimer Earl of March. The Kingdom of Ely and the O'Carrolls had withstood the most powerful army in the world and repelled them out of their territory thus retaining the integrity of the ancient principality of Elie in the centre of Ireland untill 1690.

The Carroll of Ely principality in the centre of Ireland in King's County was situated in the ancient province of Munster on the borders of Queen's County and the Lord Marshal of Leinster Estates. The Lord Marshal and Carroll of Ely = FIXED PLACE LINE = known as = THE PALE = documented in 1206 which defined the strategic valley southern border boundary between Celtic Ireland and the Anglo-Norman Settlements within the province of Leinster in Ireland.

The Temple Church London is the final resting place of Lord Marshal of Leinster Earl of Pembroke and his first born son William. Richard Marshal 3rd Earl of Pembroke lost his life in Ireland in a fierce battle along side Teige O'Carroll of Ely.

During the civil wars in Ireland William Marshal Lord of Leinster had taken two manors that the Bishop of Ferns claimed but could not get back some years after William's death the bishop is said to have laid a curse on the family that William's sons would have no children and the great Marshal estates would be scattered each of Lord William Marshal's sons did become the Earl's of Pembroke and Marshal's of England but each died without issue. Henry III King of England attended a Temple Church London service to pray for the life of William Marshal the greatest Knight that ever lived.


Leap Castle was a stronghold of the O'Carroll family powerful Irish Princes protecting the strategic southern border between the Celtic Irish War Lords and the Anglo Norman Settlements. The "Bloody Chapel" in Leap Castle is known as a source of violent evil that continues to nurture the spirit of the elemental who is believed to be the returning Carroll from Richard I Coeur de Lion's third Crusade to the holy land in 1190 and the Bishop of Ferns fury. A hidden ubliet (a dungeon) is located in the "Bloody Chapel" a small room with a drop floor prisoners would be pushed into the room to fall through the floor and land on a spike eight feet below and suffer unimaginable pain and misery until their death.

The Johns Hopkins University is a private research university in Baltimore Maryland. The university was founded on January 22 1876 and named for its benefactor the philanthropist Johns Hopkins the first campus was located on Howard Street. The Johns Hopkins University relocated to Homewood in northern Baltimore the estate of Charles Carroll the son of Charles Carroll of Carrollton the oldest surviving signer of the Declaration of Independence 1776. Carroll's Homewood House is considered one of the finest examples of Federal residential architecture.

Ronald Hoffman is a professor of history and the director of the Omohundro Institute of Early American History and Culture at the College of William and Mary. As the symposia director of the U. S. Capitol Historical Society from 1977-1993 he coedited the 15-book series Perspectives on the American Revolution. His Princes of Ireland, Planters of Maryland: A Carroll Saga, 1500–1782 (2000), written in collaboration with Sally D. Mason, won the Southern Historical Association’s Owsley Award and the Library of Virginia’s Literary Award for Nonfiction. The first three volumes of the Carroll Papers, Dear Papa, Dear Charley: The Peregrinations of a Revolutionary Aristocrat, as Told by Charles Carroll of Carrollton and His Father, Charles Carroll of Annapolis (2001) received, together with Princes of Ireland, the Maryland Historical Society’s Book Prize. In 2006, the Carroll Papers won the American Historical Association’s J. Franklin Jameson Prize for outstanding achievement in the editing of historical resources.

Sir Walter Bodmer is a German-born highly respected British human geneticist. In 1985 he chaired a Royal Society committee which wrote The Bodmer Report which has been credited with starting the movement for the public understanding of science. Sir Walter Bodmer was the Principal of Hertford College, Oxford 1996–2005. In 2005 Sir Walter was appointed to lead a £2.3 million project undertaken by the Wellcome Trust at Oxford University to examine the genetic makeup of the United Kingdom. The project took DNA samples from hundreds of volunteers throughout Britain seeking tell-tale fragments of DNA that would reveal the biological traces of successive waves of colonisers — Celts Saxons Vikings — in various parts of Britain.


Sir Erik Christopher Zeeman former Principal of Hertford College Oxford who pioneered the establishment of the world renowned Carroll Chair of Irish History seat at Hertford College which is understood to have been one on the pivotal platforms for the eventual success of the Anglo-Irish Agreement and Good Friday Agreement which brought about a cessation of violence in Northern Ireland for the first time in living memory. Sir Christopher was appointed an honorary fellow of Christ's College Cambridge Knighted in 1991 for mathematical excellence and service to British mathematics and mathematics education.
